Ohio Northern Set to Host 2011 OAC Cross Country Championships

 

Austintown, OH -- The 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday, October 29. The course is located at the Lost Creek Golf Course in Lima, Ohio. The women's 6K championship race will begin at 11a.m., while the men's 8K race will start at noon. 

The Mount Union men and Ohio Northern women claimed the 2010 crown. It was the first title for the Raiders since winning back-to-back championships in 2005 and 2006 and the fourth title for ONU in the last six years.

Following Mount Union in the men's 8K team standings was, Ohio Northern (68 points), Heidelberg (90), Baldwin-Wallace (110), Otterbein (126), Marietta (157), Wilmington (167), John Carroll (192), Muskingum (226), and Capital (304).

Five of top-10 finishers will be returning, including Marietta junior Caleb Muller (Columbus/Bexley), who placed second (25:39), followed by Baldwin-Wallace junior Kenneth Janosko (Mentor) in third (25:45), Heidelberg senior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton) in fourth (25:52), Baldwin-Wallace senior Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/Calvert) in seventh (25:57) and Mount Union senior Erik Reed (East Liverpool) in ninth place (26:18).

In the women's 6K, finishing behind Ohio Northern was Baldwin-Wallace (63), Otterbein (63), Wilmington (107), Mount Union (165), John Carroll (175), Marietta (190), Heidelberg (216), Capital (218), and Muskingum (295).

Seven of the top-10 finishers will be returning, including the 2010 OAC Runner-of-the-Year, Ohio Northern junior Alison Steinbrunner (Columbus/Centennial), who finished first with a time of 21:43. Also returning, Otterbein junior Bekah Reese (Columbus/Centennial) in third (22:43), Ohio Northern senior Kelly Casanova (Copley), in fourth (22:45), Wilmington junior Annie Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa/Central Cambria) in fifth (22:49), Ohio Northern junior Lydia Weaver (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) in sixth (22:50), along with senior Mallory Bloom (Kenton) in seventh (22:50) and Baldwin-Wallace junior Sarah Rospert (Milan/Edison) in eighth place (22:57)

The top-18 runners are honored with All-OAC accolades. The NCAA Division.III Great Lakes Regional Championships will be hosted by Oberlin College on November 12 at the Oberlin College Woodchip Trail, followed by NCAA Division III National Championships on November 19 at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
