CLEVELAND-The Polar Bear men’s soccer team advances in the
NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament following an impressive
2-0 win over Rose-Hulman in the first round Saturday evening at
Case Field.
The second round will take place tomorrow in Cleveland at 5 p.m.
as Northern will face host Case Western Reserve, following its 3-0
win over DePauw (Ind.) Saturday night.
With the win, Ohio Northern moves to 19-2-2 overall, while the
Fightin’ Engineers’ season ends at 16-6.
ONU went up 1-0 in the 40th minute when junior Cameron
Johnson headed the ball in, completing the connection from
a free kick by senior Cory Dobkins and a pass from
senior Dustin Connor.
The goal was Johnson’s 12th of the season, while Dobkins
earned his seventh assist and Connor his first of the season.
Senior Christian Huelsman notched his tenth
goal of the year when he finished a pass from junior
Nate Bascom in the 56th minute for the goal and
2-0 advantage.
Bascom earned his team-leading ninth assist of the year.
Northern outshot the Engineers, 19-5, while the Polar Bears
defense was stifling, not allowing a shot during the game and
posting the team’s 14th shutout of the year.
