Mount Union's LaMattina and Wiedt Earn All-American Honors from Women's Basketball Coaches Association

 

[WBCA RELEASE] 

Mount Union junior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake) and senior Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted) have both earned All-American honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

LaMattina was an All-America first team selection by the WBCA and a fourth team pick by D3hoops.com.  She is only the fourth player in Mount Union history to be a first team All-American joining Dana Zarzycki (1995), her coach Suzy Venet (1997 and 1998) and Keri Canning (2000).

LaMattina was the OAC Player of the Year, All-OAC First Team and All-Great Lakes Region First Team.  She started all 30 games, led the Purple Raiders was fifth in the OAC in the scoring at 15.3 points per game and also led the conference in steals (3.23 per game) while she was third in assists (4.0 per game).  LaMattina also went over 1,000 career points this past season and currently has 1,166 points.

Wiedt was an honorable mention All-America selection by the WBCA and shared OAC Player of the Year honors with LaMattina.  She was a four-time All-OAC selection and two-time all-region pick that played in all 30 games this season and was second on the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game.  She was the top three-point shooter in the conference and fifth in the nation at .462 percentage from beyond the arc.  She finishes her career at No. 5 on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,280 points and she holds the school record for three-pointers made at 241.
