Marietta's Saunders Named National Hitter of the Week

Marietta senior shortstop Tim Saunders (Alliance/Alliance) was named the NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) After leading the Pioneers to a perfect 5-0 record last week.

Saunders went 17-for-25 for a .680 batting average. He blasted a pair of two-run home runs in one game at Muskingum, ending it with five hits in six at bats. In addition to the home runs, he had two doubles and two triples, resulting in 29 total bases and a 1.160 slugging percentage.

Saunders moved into second place on Marietta’s all-time triples list with 20, three shy of the school record. He had two four-hit games, two three-hit games, and a two-hit game, and went a combined 6-for-9 in Marietta’s sweep of Baldwin-Wallace. Saunders ended the week with 11 runs scored, six RBI’s, and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases. He was also named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.
