Mount Union captures OAC Men's and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships

Ada, Ohio-Mount Union men and women
won the 2013 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by
Ohio Northern Friday-Saturday, February 22-23.
The men won a record 32nd OAC Indoor Track & Field
Championship with 192.33 points, 81.33 points a head John Carroll
in second place.
Fourth-year head coach Kevin Lucas and his staff earned Coaching
Staff of the Year recognition.
Sophomore Tyler Mettille (Canfield) was named
OAC Sprinter of the Meet for his performances in the 200-meter dash
with an OAC-record time of 22.35 and the 400-meter dash with a time
of 49.43. Mettille was also a member of the winning 4x200 relay
team a time of 1:30.76, which was just .01 off a school record.
Junior Sam Ludgood (Webster/Webster Schroeder)
was the OAC Field Athlete of the Meet with an OAC record mark in
the triple jump (50-1.75) Ludgood also won the long jump title with
a mark of 23-10.75.
Marietta senior Caleb Muller (Columbus/Bexley)
won three events to be name Distance Runner of the Meet. Muller won
the one mile run in 4:20.19, the 5,000-meter run in 15:17.66 and
posted a time of 4:20.19 in the mile.
On the women’s side, the Purple Raiders won their third
straight and fourth overall title with 214 points, 112 points ahead
of second place Ohio Northern and Otterbein.
Otterbein fourth-year head coach Dave Lehman and his staff
earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Cardinal improved
four places from last year’s sixth place finish.
Mount Union junior Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St.
Paul) claimed OAC Sprint Athlete of the Meet for the
second straight year. Mahoney won individual titles and set OAC
records in the 60-meter dash (7.75) and 400-meters dash (55.53).
She also won the 200-meter dash (25.01) and was also part of the
winning and record setting 4x200 relay team (1:43.62).
Distance Runner of the Year went to Capital senior Emma
McCarron (Mansfield) and Ohio Northern senior
Alison Steinbrunner (New Carlisle /
Tecumseh). This is the second consecutive and third
overall time Steinbrunner has garnered this honor.
Steinbrunner won the 5,000-meter run with an OAC record time
of 17:39.21 and placed second in the 3,000-meter run (10.13.77).
McCarron won the 3,000-meter run with an OAC record time of
10:07.54 and placed first in the one mile run (5:14.71).
Ohio Northern senior Vicki Moga (Stow / Stow-Monroe
Falls) was named Field Athlete of the Meet with a first
place finish in the high jump (1.69m)
The top three individuals and top three relay teams earn All-OAC
honors.
