Four Named Capital One Academic All-America Cross Country/Track & Field; Mount Union's Mary Mahoney Named Academic All-American of the Year

Mount Union's Mary Mahoney (Ashtabula/St. John-St. Paul) was
named Capital One Academic All-American of the
Year for NCAA Division III Women's Track & Field as selected by
the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Mahoney is the second Mount Union student-athlete this year to
be selected Academic All-American of the Year joining Nick Driskill
in football. Both will be on a ballot to choose a national
Academic All-American of the Year.
It is the third straight year that Mahoney was an Academic
All-America First Team selection and she is one of three Purple
Raiders on this year's team along with senior Daryn Herman on the
second team and junior Emily Mazzaferri on the third team.
Mahoney was a 14-time conference champion in track and
field and an eight-time All-American that won two national titles
-- the 2012 outdoor 200 meters and 2013 indoor 400 meters.
She was four-time Ohio Athletic Conference Sprinter of the
Year and twice had been named the Great Lakes Region Sprint Athlete
of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association. Off the track, she has graduated
with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science major with a 3.97
grade point average.
Herman was a three-time All-American and five-time
conference champion that won the 400 meter hurdle outdoor
conference title and was part of a 4x400 meter relay team that
swept indoor and outdoor conference titles this past season.
Off the track, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in
Public Health and a 3.92 grade point average.
Mazzaferri is a four-time All-American and an
eight-time conference champion including sweeping indoor and
outdoor 800 meter titles this past year. She is an English
and Education major with a 3.95 grade point
average.
Ohio Northern senior Alison Steinbrunner has been named First
Team for the first time.
This is the first time she has been named to the national
ballot.
In cross country, she won her fourth straight OAC title and
second consecutive NCAA III Regional. At the NCAA III
Championships, she finished second to earn her third straight
All-American honor.
During the track season, Steinbrunner broke two of her own
school records and also broke two OAC marks. She also qualified for
the NCAA III Indoor Championships in the 5,000-meter run.
