CHICAGO, Ill. – Recent Otterbein University graduate Dominic Porretta (Westerville/Thomas Worthington) has been named a finalist for the 2013 TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award.
The second-annual award recognizes college baseball players across the country that excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. The 15 finalists demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom. A left-handed pitcher, Porretta was a four-year letterman for the Cardinals and recently capped his senior season with an honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. He finished with four saves, a 3.21 E.R.A., a team-high 18 appearances, and 24 strikeouts over 28 innings in serving as the team's closer.
Porretta made an even stronger impact off the diamond, becoming President of Otterbein's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), working as a student assistant in the Sports Information Office, and obtaining various jobs or internships with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, Columbus Parks and Recreation, Autism Society of Ohio, and the Otterbein Academic Support Center.
Highlighting Porretta's resume is his friendship with Ryan Trubee, a boy with autism who Porretta developed a friendship with just over four years ago in high school.
