Ohio Northern Men and Women Lead After Day One of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The nine-time defending Ohio Athletic
Conference Champion Ohio Northern University and the five-time
defending Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving teams lead the
2014 Ohio Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships
after the first day of competition at the Ocasek Natatorium on the
campus of the University of Akron.
The Polar Bear men stand in first place with 252 points with one
individual champion, including five All-OAC swimmers and two
winning and All-OAC relay teams. Mount Union is in second
place with 147.5 points, John Carroll is third with 132 points,
Wilmington is in fourth with 126.5 points, Transylvania is fifth
with 96 points, Baldwin Wallace is in sixth with 85 points and
Defiance is in seventh with five points.
The Ohio Northern women are in first place with 237 points and
one individual champion, including five All-OAC swimmers and two
winning and All-OAC relay teams. Mount Union is in
second place with 149 points, John Carroll is third with 133
points, Transylvania is in fourth with 125 points, Baldwin Wallace
is fifth with 107 points, Wilmington is in sixth with 36 points and
Defiance is in seventh with 32 points.
On the women's side, the 200-yard free relay was won by the Ohio
Northern team of Uhrin, Chapman, Lohnes and Inkrott with a winning
time of 1:37.51. The 500-yard freestyle was won by Polar Bear
senior Lindsey Rayhill in a time of 5:09.97. The 200-yard
individual medley was won by John Carroll sophomore Lindsey Fano
with a winning mark of 2:09.88. The 50-yard freestyle was won
by Transylvania freshman Megan Taylor in a time of 23.89. The
400-yard medley relay was won by the Ohio Northern team of Lohnes,
Hartsel, Rayhill and Chapman with an OAC record time of 3:54.25
For the men, the 200-yard free relay was won by the Ohio
Northern team of Heilbronner, Luthman, Breitigam and Beaschler with
a time of 1:24.74. The 500-yard free was won by Polar
Bear freshman John Raker in 4:39.06. The 200-yard individual
medley was won by Mount Union freshman Tyler Moore with a winning
mark of 1:52.76. The 50-yard freestyle was won by Blue Streak
senior Nick Holvey in 20.79. The 400-yard medley relay was won by
the Ohio Northern team of Beaschler, Heilbronner, Chen and Pfeifer
in a time of 3:27.00
The OAC Championships continue with the second day of
competition and the first day of diving on Friday, February 14 The
prelims are slated to begin and 10 a.m. and the finals contested at
6 p.m. The final day of competition is Saturday, February 15
with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
