Ohio Northern Men and Women Lead After Two Days of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The nine-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference Champion Ohio Northern University and the five-time defending Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving teams lead after two days of competition at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

The Polar Bear men stand in first place with 621 points with four individual champions, including 15 All-OAC swimmers and four winning and All-OAC relay teams. Mount Union is in second place with 425.5 points, John Carroll is third with 319 points, Wilmington is in fourth with 282.5 points, Transylvania is fifth with 209 points, Baldwin Wallace is in sixth with 189 points and Defiance is in seventh with 13 points.

The Ohio Northern women are in first place with 571 points and three individual champions, including nine All-OAC swimmers and four winning and All-OAC relay teams. Mount Union is in second place with 445 points, John Carroll is third with 308 points, Baldwin Wallace is in fourth with 296 points, Transylvania is fifth with 288 points, Wilmington is in sixth with 143 points and Defiance is in seventh with 49 points.

On the women's side, the 200-yard medley relay was won by the Ohio Northern team of Lohnes, Hartsel, Rayhill and Chapman in 1:47.22. The 400-yard individual medley was won by freshman Julia Johnson of Transylvania with a winning mark of 4:33.94. The 100-yard butterfly was won by Polar Bear senior Lindsey Rayhill, who missed her OAC record by one hundredth of a second, with a time of 59.12. The 200-yard freestyle was won by John Carroll junior Victoria Watson in 1:54.36. The 100-breaststroke was won by Blue Streak sophomore Lindsey Fano with a mark of 1:06.47. The 100-yard backstroke was won by Ohio Northern sophomore Lindsey Inkrott with an OAC record time of 56.86. The women's 1-meter diving was won by Baldwin Wallace freshman Alice Clark with 420.20 points. The 800-yard freestyle relay was won by the Polar Bear team of Uhrin, Rayhill, Zoeller and Inkrott in an OAC record time of 7:48.64

For the men, the 200-yard medley relay was won by the Ohio Northern team of Heilbronner, Luthman, Breitigam and in a time of 1:34.28. The 400-yard individual medley was won by Polar Bear freshman John Raker with an ONU school-record time of 4:08.30. The 100-yard butterfly was won by Breitigam, who missed his OAC record by four one- hundredths of a second, with a time of 49.28. The 200-yard freestyle was won by Mount Union sophomore Gavin Rundell in 1:43.50. The 100-breaststroke was won by Purple Raider freshman Tyler Moore with a time of 56.49. The 100-yard backstroke was won by Wilmington freshman David Spraul in 52.90. The 3-meter diving was won by Polar Bear senior Kyle Rex with 375.80 points. The 800-yard freestyle relay was won by the Ohio Northern team of Chen, Hoffman, Raker and Beaschler in 6:57.83

The OAC Championships final day of competition is on Saturday, February 15 with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
