Five Earn All-American Honors at NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships

Five have earned All-American honors at the NCAA
Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The top
eight finisher in each weight class earn All-American honors.
Jesse Gunter-Baldwin Wallace, 125 -pound sophomore,
Akron, OH/ Coventry (Third Place)
Gunter finished third with a 5-1 record. Gunter, the No. 5
seed, advance to the consolation final. In that match, Gunter
pinned the No.6-seed, Olivet's Robert Bidlingmaier, in 1:36 to earn
third place.
Jeremy Border-Mount Union, 133-pound sophomore,
Caldwell, OH (Third Place)
Border, the No. 5 seed in the bracket, started with a 14-3 major
decision victory over Andrew Taylor of Baldwin Wallace then grabbed
a 5-3 overtime win over No. 4 seed Evan Obert of Luther (Iowa) in
the quarterfinals. He fell 9-1 in the semifinals to No. 1 seed
Kenny Anderson of Wartburg (Iowa). Border then took two wins in the
consolation bracket -- a 2-0 win over Jimmy Nehls from
Wisconsin-Whitewater and a 15-6 major decision against Ryan O'Boyle
to finish third.
Dan Mirman-John Carroll, 149-pound sophomore, Wadsworth,
OH/Medina Highland (Sixth Place)
In the consolation semifinals with the third-place match in
sight Mirman, the fourth seed, squared off against the No. 7
149-pounder in Delaware Valley's Vincent Fava. In another close
match Mirman fell 3-2.
In a rematch with Elroy Perkin from Wisconsin-Whitewater, Mirman
was unable to gain any momentum falling 8-5 to finish in sixth
place. Mirman had beaten Perkin 4-3 on Friday night in the second
round.
Jon Garrison-Mount Union, 157-pound junior, Copley, OH
(Sixth Place)
In the consolation bracket, he rallied in the third period for
an 8-2 win over Kyle LeDuc of Concordia-Moorehead (Minn.) to make
sure he placed. Garrison scored a 4-2 overtime win against Richard
Jasinski of Ursinus (Pa.) before a 5-2 loss in the consolation
semifinals to Jorge Lopez of Williams (Mass.) He finished
sixth with an 11-2 major decision loss to Everet Desilets of
Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in the fifth place match.
Ohio Northern HWT-junior Cody Lovejoy, Harrod,
OH/AllenEast (Seventh Place)
Lovejoy, the No. 5 seed, defeated Rick Caruso (42-8)
of Bridgewater State (Mass.) in the seventh place match by a 4-0
decision to finish the Championships with a 3-2 record.
