Four Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Football Team-Mount Union's Hank Spencer Named Academic All-American of the Year

 

COMPLETE RELEASE 

Mount Union senior linebacker Hank Spencer (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam) has been voted the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for Division III Football.

Spencer, a computer science major with a 3.99 grade-point average is the third Purple Raider to earn this honor (Greg Micheli 2008, Nick Driskill 2012)

Spencer currently has 43 tackles (12 solo), including 1.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss,a forced fumble and three pass breakups. Has earned the 2015 OAC Gene Slaughter Award and All-OAC First Team honors for the second straight-year. Mount Union has advanced to the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals. 

Marietta junior defensive back Corey Hunsberger (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Wilmington junior defensive end David Henry (Wilmington) have been named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Football First Team.

Hunsberger is a petroleum engineer major with a 4.00 grade-point average. He finished the season with a team leading 66 tackles (36 solo).

Henry is a sport management wellness major with a 4.00 grade-point average. He finished the regular-season ranked among the top of the Conference with seven sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss and earned All-OAC Second Team honors. 

Heidelberg senior kicker/punter Stephen Smith (Tiffin/Calvert) has been named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Football Second Team. Smith is a music - organ performance major with a 3.95 grade-point average.  Smith kicked eight field goals and 40 extra points for a total of 64 points this season.
