Six Earn USTFCCCA Regional Athlete & Coach of the Year Honors-All-Great Lakes Region Honorees Announced
Track Athlete – Ian McVey – Ohio Northern
McVey, a senior from Stow, Ohio, won the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) crown in the 3000 meters and finished the regular season with national top-ten seeds in the 3000 and 5000. McVey will contest the 5000 meters at the national championships. He collected the No. 1 ranking in the region in the mile, 3000, 5000, and was No. 3 as a member of the DMR.
Field Athlete – Hayden Snow – John Carroll
Snow, a junior from Sandusky, Ohio, set the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) record and entered the NCAA DIII all-time top five in the long jump with a league-winning leap of 25-1¼ (7.65m). He has recorded six jumps over 24-3½ this season. For the national championships, he is also entered in the 60.
Men's Coach – Kevin Lucas – Mount Union
In his 10th year as Head Track & Field Coach at Mount Union, Lucas has the Raiders poised to make a run at the podium at this weekend’s NCAA Championships, with the team currently ranked fifth in the country. The Raiders have racked up team titles all year, including the All-Ohio championship and the Ohio Athletic Conference championship. Fifteen athletes earned all-conference honors at the OAC Championships.
Women's Coach – Dara Ford – Otterbein
Ford, in her 5th year as Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at Otterbein, has added a few trophies to the Cardinals’ collection this season. The team won both the All-Ohio championships and the Ohio Athletic Conference championships, with seven individual event wins at the OAC meet. The team finished the regular season with the top ranking in the Great Lakes Region.
Men's Assistant Coach – Jake Alexander – John Carroll
Coaching sprints, jumps, and hurdles, Alexander has national qualifiers in three different events this season: long jump, triple jump, and 60 meters. Alexander-coached athletes scored 86 of the team’s 151 points at the OAC Championships, including one event win and eight All-OAC performances. Alexander is in his 5th year as Associate Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach at John Carroll.
Women's Assistant Coach – Joe Eby – Baldwin Wallace
Eby, in his 4th year as Assistant Track & Field Coach at Baldwin Wallace, coached athletes to score 55 of the team’s 113 points at the OAC Championships and 45 of the team’s 85.5 points in the All-Ohio Championships. Kelly Brennan rewrote Baldwin Wallace’s school records in three different events during the regular season. Eby coaches distance events at Baldwin Wallace.
