OAC AND VISIT CANTON TO HOST 2028 STAGG BOWL
WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The NCAA has approved the Ohio Athletic Conference and Visit Canton to serve as championship hosts for the Stagg Bowl during the 2027-28 football season. The Stagg Bowl, Division III’s football championship game, will return to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio in January 2028.
This will be the third time the OAC and Visit Canton has hosted the Stagg Bowl. In 2021, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) defeated North Central College (IL), 57-24. The OAC will host the Stagg Bowl again during the 2025-26 school year and the 2027-28 school year.
The NCAA sports committees made the selections of host sites based on criteria that included the ability to create an outstanding experience for student-athletes, along with adherence to NCAA sport-specific bid specifications. Specifications can include providing optimal facilities; ease of travel to the location; ample lodging; and adherence to NCAA principles, which include providing an atmosphere that is safe and respects the dignity of all attendees.
Bidding for 87 of 90 NCAA championships began in September 2023 and more than 1,200 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sport committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in more than 240 total championship event sites being awarded. More than 54,000 student-athletes compete in NCAA championships each year.
