Ada, Ohio- Ohio Northern senior Selby Wilt (Findlay) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Month for February.
Wilt has been a four-year standout on the men’s swimming and diving team and played a major role in its resurgence to the top of the league.
Wilt won two events and earned All-Conference accolades in six events as the Polar Bears won the OAC Championships title for the first time in 10 years this season. Northern's OAC Championships victory is its 13th in men's program history and its first since winning 12 consecutive crowns from 2005-2016.
Wilt is a two-time OAC Champion and an 18-time All-Conference performer in his four seasons as a Polar Bear. “Selby has been our fastest sprinter for the past four years,” ONU head coach Austin Veltman said. “Most of the relays are sprint-oriented, so as our best sprinter he is able to contribute more.” He owns three school records, including the 50 free, the 100 free and as part of the 200 free relay team.
Academically, the computer engineering major is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree. He was also named a Scholar All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America and is a two-time Academic All-District honoree by the College Sports Communicators. “Selby has been outstanding academically,” Veltman said. “He is very balanced in his approach and is very reliable. He competes very hard and has been a major part of our success.”
