Mount Union's Mason and Muskingum's Dempsey Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s Basketball Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- Mount Union senior Thomas Mason (Alliance/Marlington) and Muskingum sophomore Marcus Dempsey (Zanesville/Tri Valley) have been named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Men's Basketball that was voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Mason was selected second team, while Dempsey has earned third team honors. 

Mason, a Biochemistry and Spanish double-major with a 4.00 grade point average, played in 24 games and led the Purple Raiders in blocks with 14. Mason also grabbed 63 rebounds and shot 47-percent from the floor.

Dempsey, an interdisciplinary major, finished the regular season ranked first in the conference and third in Division III in points per game (30.3). He ended the season shooting .506 from the field and .400 from the arc, while collecting 113 rebounds, 62 assists, and 20 steals. His career/season-high was 57 points, which set the school record for points scored in a game at Oberlin on December 30, 2017. The previous record was 54 points set in 1912-13
